A circular economy project
Despite the fact that there is an increasing awareness of the fragility of the environment, there are still habits in our day to day that we must change, such as the use of plastic bags when we go shopping. This is a large-scale problem, since many of these bags end up in the sea causing physical damage and even the death of many living beings such as whales, dolphins, birds, turtles, etc., not to mention the microplastics and chemicals that are incorporated into the food chain.
In Tarifa, the mecca of kitesurfing and windsurfing, each year water sports schools throw away enormous quantities of old material as they do not meet the technical safety conditions for their use. These materials are made of high quality fabrics, but they cannot be reused again in this industry. Therefore, the only possibilities left for these materials are to be disposed in the recycling container or, more recommendable still, reuse them. This reduces the carbon footprint that would occur when re-manufactured.
WHAT IS THE 7 LIVES PROJECT?
7 LIVES is a local circular economy project that aims to recycle this waste material from kites and windsurfing to make reusable shopping bags and other everyday objects. Like the 7 lives of a cat.
The objective of the project is to provide these new objects at the entrance of the local food shops in Tarifa to encourage customers to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics.
For the recycling of these materials into 6 other useful objects , we have local taylors and groups and associations that work with vulnerable people or those at risk of exclusion, creating a local circular economy throughout the year and with the "made in Tarifa" stamp.
7 VIDAS meets 4 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
